Osimhen: Frankfurt’s Toppmoller downplays Galatasaray’s striker absence

Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmoller has expressed readiness for Thursday’s clash against Galatasaray, who will be without talisman Victor Osimhen, in the UEFA Champions League.

The German side welcome the Turkish champions to the Deutsche Bank Park, in their opening match of the 2025/26 European season.

Osimhen, 26, joined Galatasaray on a permanent deal this summer after an impressive loan spell in the 2024/25 campaign, but is set to miss his side’s UCL opener with an injury.

The striker suffered the injury while on international duty with Nigeria and has not recovered in time to feature in Thursday’s crucial clash.

Speaking in his post match interview ahead of the clash, Toppmoller who led Frankfurt to a third-placed finish in the Bundesliga last season believes his team can handle any form of threat posed by the visitors in the absence of their star man.

He said; “He’s an absolutely exceptional striker in Europe. His replacement, Mauro Icardi, has also proven he can score goals.

In the end, it doesn’t matter who plays up front. Of course, the way he plays makes a difference, because Osimhen attacks more from deep”,

Eintracht Frankfurt have had a good start to the season, winning two of their first three league matches.

Galatasaray, on the other hand, have won all five of their league matches this season and will be aiming to continue their 100% run on Thursday night.

“Whether he plays or not is irrelevant to us. Both teams will have eleven top players on the pitch tomorrow”, Toppmoller continued.

Even without Osimhen, Galatasaray are still expected to pose a serious threat to their hosts, with plenty of quality alternatives in their attack.
