Tottenham’s Thomas Frank leaves door open for potential Harry Kane return

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has refused to rule out a return for Harry Kane to the club.

Kane, 32, left the North London club in 2023 to join Bayern Munich in a deal worth about £86.4 million, but could be set for a swift return to the club after just two years.

The England captain has a release clause in his contract that allows him to leave the German champions, which was initially at £67 million and will drop to £54 million next January.

Spurs can choose to match any bid from another club for their former captain if the release clause is triggered.

“There are a lot of Tottenham fans, including myself who would like to see Kane back,” Frank said.

“Personally, I don’t think he will do it right now, if I’m honest. He’ll probably stay in Bayern [Munich] and continue performing well. He was the top scorer last year. He won the title and he’s doing fantastic now.”

The England striker has enjoyed a successful time in Germany netting 96 times in 103 appearances and ending his trophyless career by winning the German Bundesliga and Super Cup last season.

Kane remains Tottenham’s record goalscorer with 280 goals and is the second all-time highest goalscorer in English Premier League history with 213 goals only behind Alan Shearer with 260.

The prospect of breaking Shearer’s record could prove appealing to the 32-year-old, although it is highly unlikely he leaves Bayern Munich soon.

“I don’t know what he’s thinking. Myself, I’m a traveller, I like to explore things as well, so he’s been here for many years, so why not enjoy the time in Bayern a little bit more”, Frank added.

“But he’s welcome. If he wants to join us, he’s more than welcome.”
