Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is reportedly keen on recruiting Borussia Dortmund’s Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy as the Blaugrana ready themselves for life after aging Polish hitman Robert Lewandowski.
The 37-year-old striker has enjoyed one of the most decorated careers in European football, firing goals for Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and now Barcelona.
Firing the Blaugrana to a domestic treble in 2024/2025 reminded everyone of his enduring class, but with his contract expiring next summer, even his biggest admirers admit time is running out.
For head coach Flick, the answer might lie back in Germany. According to BILD, the Barca boss has placed Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy high on his wishlist.
The Guinea international has been in lethal form since swapping Stuttgart for the Yellow Wall, underlining his credentials with a hat-trick against Barcelona in last season’s Champions League quarterfinal.
He went on to share the Golden Boot with Raphinha, scoring 13 times in the competition.
Early signs in 2025/2026 suggest Guirassy’s appetite remains insatiable, with four goals in four Bundesliga games. Flick, who knows the Bundesliga inside out from his Bayern days, sees him as an ideal heir to Lewandowski’s role.
However, president Joan Laporta is said to be far less convinced, preferring more glamorous names such as Julian Alvarez or Erling Haaland, though both would require finances Barcelona simply can’t afford.
With elections looming in 2026, Laporta’s transfer preferences are also tied to political ambition, not just sporting sense.
That could leave Barca at a crossroads: push for Flick’s pragmatic choice in Guirassy, who would still command a steep fee, or chase after marquee names they may struggle to afford.
Either way, the clock is ticking on Lewandowski, and Barcelona cannot avoid the succession question much longer.
