Luis Enrique issues verdict on PSG’s growing injury list

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique insists his side must “adapt” amid a growing list of injury casualties that now includes club captain Marquinhos.

The reigning Ligue 1 and European champions announced on Friday that Marquinhos faces several weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a left thigh injury in Monday’s 1-0 loss to Marseille.

The setback comes at a difficult moment for PSG, who welcome Auxerre in the league on Saturday before heading to Barcelona for a high-stakes Champions League showdown on Wednesday.

Freshly crowned Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele alongside Joao Neves and Desire Doue also remain in recovery and are expected to miss both fixtures. Despite this, Enrique is not worrying too much.

“It’s football, it’s competition, it’s normal. We have to adapt to these situations. It’s nothing important,” Luis Enrique told reporters on Friday.

“We prepare to manage everything that happens on the football field. I am not concerned. This is what happens at the top level.

“Have we planned all this? We try to predict all the things that will happen, but I’m not a soothsayer. I try to be sometimes before games, but I don’t know when players will get injured.

“But I’m not concerned at all and it’s a mentality that I try to convey to my players and the fans… calmness and tranquillity. We have a lot of players who can play.”

Despite their injury list, PSG still have a wealth of talent to call on for their upcoming games. Auxerre in the league should be a straightforward game for Enrique’s side, but the UCL clash against Barcelona is where they will be truly tested.
