Premier League: West Ham United part ways with Graham Potter

West Ham United have dismissed manager Graham Potter after just less than a year in charge.

Potter, 50, replaced Julien Lopetegui as manager in January, signing a two and a half year contract at the London Stadium, but has suffered the same fate as his predecessor in just over nine months at the club.

The former Chelsea manager struggled to get going at the club and recorded only six wins from 25 matches.

Following last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace which left the team languishing in 19th place, the 50-year-old admitted uncertainty about his future at the club.

“I understand we’re in a tough situation. We want to do better than we are and at the moment we’re not”, Potter had revealed in his post-match interview.

Despite once being a highly-rated manager at Brighton, Graham Potter has now suffered successive dismissals at Chelsea and now at West Ham.

His spell at the Blues lasted under a year, while he has now suffered the same fate following his exit from West Ham.

The Hammers have started the season poorly after a 14th-placed finish last season, with humiliating defeats to newly-promoted Sunderland, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

In a statement released on social media, the club confirmed the decision to dismiss the 50-year-old.

“West Ham United can confirm that head coach Graham Potter has left the club”, the club statement revealed.

“Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the board of directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”

Nuno Espirito Santo and Slaven Bilic are frontrunners to replace Potter at West Ham, with a new manager set to be appointed in the coming days.
