Paris Saint-Germain have suffered a double injury blow ahead of their highly anticipated UEFA Champions League clash against top contenders Barcelona, with Vitinha and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia doubtful for the game after exiting Les Parisiens’ match over the weekend with apparent injuries.
The current Ligue 1 and Champions League holders secured a 2–0 victory over Auxerre to stay top of Ligue 1 after six matches, but the result came at a cost, leaving them with fresh injury worries to key players ahead of a daunting trip to Barcelona.
Providing an update on the fresh pair of injury setbacks to Vitinha and Kvaratskhelia, Enrique explained that the club’s medical staff would have to assess both players and determine their availability for the trip to Barcelona.
“We need to wait for the medical staff to tell us tomorrow or the day after what kind of injuries they have,” Enrique said.
“We have to stay positive because we need to be able to manage this situation. Paris Saint-Germain are not the only team with injuries. It is the case for every team with such an intense calendar.”
This pair of injury blows come at a difficult time for Enrique and PSG. The French champions are already missing the likes of Marquinhos, Ousmane Dembele, Joao Neves and Desire Doue. If Vitinha and Kvaratskhelia are eventually ruled out of the clash, PSG could find themselves short-staffed for the Barcelona clash.
Nevertheless, Enrique will be relishing the opportunity to pit his tactical wits against that of another world-class tactitcian in Hansi Flick. His previous ties to Barcelona make the occasion of his return to Catalonia all the more special.
