Aston Villa’s Bizot delighted with display in Europa League win over Feyenoord

Aston Villa goalkeeper was impressed with the team’s display after they recorded a 2-0 win at Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The English side had defeated Bologna 1-0 in their opening match and were on high spirits after defeating Fulham last weekend to record their first league win of the season.

However, they were dealt an early blow before the match even started as goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was injured in the warmup.

Up stepped Bizot, the 34-year-old summer signing from French side Stade Brestois, who deputized excellently and produced a magnificent display in goal.

“It’s a massive victory. I’ve played here in my career many times. I can count on one hand every victory here! But this is a massive victory for Villa – I’m happy!”, Bizot admitted after the game.

“[Emi Martinez] felt something during the warm-up. I saw him speaking with officials. The coach told me, ‘he’s going inside, we’re going to warm up a little bit and be ready whenever you’re needed’. That’s what it is.”

Feyenoord were lucky not to have a man sent off in the early exchanges after the centre referee stuck with his original decision to give Anel Ahmedhodzic a yellow card for a last-man foul on Ollie Watkins, despite VAR sending him to the pitch side monitor to review the incident.

Aston Villa soon had the referee to thank, as he disallowed a goal by the hosts for a soft foul on Matty Cash.

In the second half, Emi Buendia and John McGinn, who were both on the scoresheet at the weekend, found the back of the net once more to give the away side a 2-0 win.

“Maybe it’s good to do a small warm-up! I’m happy I can help the team”, he continued

“It was difficult in the beginning of the season but we’d still got the spirit and hopefully this vibe we have now we can keep up. We’re playing better, we’re more solid, the team I think has more confidence, we score goals!”

Aston Villa turn their attention to the English Premier League this weekend, where they face newly-promoted Burnley.
