Liverpool provide Alisson Becker injury update

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has suggested that goalkeeper Alisson Becker faces a slightly protracted spell on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury in the 1–0 Champions League defeat to Galatasaray.

The Brazilian shot-stopper, widely regarded as one of the best in the world, pulled up early in the second half after sprinting back to deny Victor Osimhen, immediately signalling to the bench before limping off. His injury has already ruled him out of Brazil’s squad for the upcoming international break.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash with Chelsea, Reds manager Arne Slot admitted that Alisson will not be fit to feature and warned that his recovery may extend beyond October. “It’s difficult to say when he will return,” Slot told reporters. “I’m not a doctor, but he’s unlikely to be back straight after the international fixtures.”

It marks the fourth hamstring problem Alisson has suffered since February 2024, during which he has missed 41 games for club and country. With The Athletic reporting a likely return date of late November, Liverpool face a demanding run without their No.1.

In Alisson’s absence, summer signing Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to take over between the posts, starting against Chelsea before the international break. On Liverpool’s return, they host Manchester United on October 19, followed by Champions League meetings with Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Madrid, plus Premier League fixtures against Brentford, Crystal Palace and Manchester City.

If his recovery goes to plan, Alisson could return for the November 22 game against Nottingham Forest at Anfield, a timely boost for the Reds who will be aiming to maintain momentum in both domestic and European competition.
