FIFA has officially unveiled TRIONDA, the match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be staged across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The ball, revealed in New York on Thursday, was designed by German manufacturer Adidas, continuing a partnership that began in 1970.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino expressed pride in the launch, saying: “I am delighted and proud to present the TRIONDA.”
The name blends “tri” (three) and “onda” (waves), symbolizing the unity of the three host nations. Its striking design features bold red, blue, and green patterns merging at the center. Each color pays tribute to a host country: stars for the U.S., Canada’s maple leaf, and Mexico’s green eagle motif.
Beyond its visual appearance, TRIONDA introduces cutting-edge technology. The ball will transmit real-time data to Video Assistant Referees, working alongside artificial intelligence to speed up and improve offside calls. Every touch will be tracked, potentially aiding reviews of handballs or red-card incidents.
Adidas Football general manager Sam Handy described TRIONDA as both innovative and expressive: “The embossed textures, layered graphics and bold colors make the ball stand out instantly. It’s the most visually playful FIFA World Cup ball we’ve ever created—a piece of craftsmanship built for the biggest stage.”
Solene Stoermann, Adidas category director, highlighted the symbolism of the first World Cup to be shared by three nations: “As soon as the hosts were announced, we knew we had to make something special—a ball that can be played everywhere, from the backyard to the world’s biggest stage. Next summer, TRIONDA is set to be a main character in the biggest show on earth.”
The 2026 World Cup kicks off in June 2026, with TRIONDA set to take center stage.
