Jack Grealish scored a late winner as Everton ended Crystal Palace’s unbeaten streak with a come from behind 2-1 win in the English Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles had entered the clash on the back of a club-record 19-game unbeaten run, which was set with the midweek win over Dynamo Kyiv in the UEFA Conference League.
They were also the only remaining unbeaten side in the league this season, heading into the clash at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
A win on Sunday would have moved Palace up to second on the standings behind Arsenal, but they faced a tough match against a resurgent Toffees.
Both sides traded early chances, but Palace had the best chance of the early exchanges, with Tyrick Mitchell thumping an effort off the bar.
They went ahead in the 37th minute, as Daniel Munoz, who had scored the club’s first-ever European away goal in midweek, finished off a superb counterattacking move to open the scoring.
Jean-Philippe Mateta wasted the chance to double the lead in the second half, with his lob over Jordan Pickford cleared off the line by O’Brien.
Mateta was at the heart of action few minutes later, failing to convert from few yards out despite being in a great position.
Everton were given a lifeline moments later after a penalty was awarded for a foul on Iroegbunam by Lacroix.
Iliman Ndiaye dispatched the resulting spot-kick, sending Dean Henderson the wrong way to double his side’s lead.
The game looked set for a stalemate, until Everton grabbed a late winner albeit in fortuitous circumstances.
Daniel Munoz’s rebound attempt deflected into the net off Jack Grealish, putting Everton 2-1 up in the 93rd minute.
The game ended with the same scoreline as Crystal Palace unbeaten run was finally ended, while Everton moved up to seventh on the standings with 11 points.
