Wayne Rooney has heaped praises on his former England international teammate Harry Kane in appreciation of the striker’s insane level of productivity since joining Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Kane notched an impressive tally of 82 goals in 91 appearances across his first two seasons for Bayern Munich and has already recorded 21 goals in 15 games across all competitions so far in the ongoing 2025/2026 season.
What is even more impressive about the former Tottenham Hotspur striker is that he’s not just about scoring goals. He affects games with not just his finishing but also his creativity and for Rooney, this makes him the best striker England has ever produced.
“He’s a clever lad Harry and he knows he’s never been the quickest, but I think he’s lost a little bit of sharpness,” Rooney said on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast (via @iMiaSanMia).
“He scored I don’t know how many goals last season for Bayern. He’s a goal scorer, he’s clinical but he’s clever in terms of the positions he’s picking up.
“I watched Bayern Munich in the Club World Cup and it was almost like Totti for Roma, where he’d drop in and there’s runners off of him.
“But gradually as the ball got further forward and they might come back out and went back round the other side, he then makes his way in the box. So it’s not a sprint but he’s in there and he’s in and around there and if he gets a chance, he scores. For me, he’s the greatest ever England number nine.”
Kane scored in Bayern’s recent 3-0 over Eintracht Frankfurt to take his Bundesliga tally to 11 goals in 6 games. The Bavarians, who head into the international break unblemished, will be looking to pick up where they’ve left off in a couple of weeks.
