French forward Kingsley Coman has opened up on his shock move from German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr in the summer.
Coman is generally believed to still be at the peak of his powers so it came as a surprise to many when news of the electric French winger’s move from Bavaria to Riyadh broke in the summer.
The 29-year-old France international has now revealed some of the details behind his summer transfer, explaining that some of the powers that be at the Allianz Arena felt his time at Bayern should be brought to an end.
“Just before the transfer went through, there were some things – which I won’t mention – that complicated the situation. I wasn’t pushed out, but I was told the club was open to a departure because of its financial situation,” Coman told L’Équipe.
“I had the love of the coach, the fans, and some people in management… but not everyone. There was a part of the club that wanted me to leave. And that part weighed heavily on my mind.
“But I’ll go back to say goodbye, because I spent almost ten years there, and it’s still the club that means the most to me.”
Coman made a total of 339 appearances for Bayern, scoring 72 goals and providing 71 assists. He also won a total of 21 major trophies with the Bavarians including 9 Bundesliga titles, 3 DFB Pokals and 1 UEFA Champions League crown.
The Frenchman has enjoyed a bright start to his Al Nassr career so far, scoring three goals and providing five assists in his nine outings for the Saudi Pro League side.
