Ancelotti sends clear message to Brazil players ahead of 2026 World Cup

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has stressed that the team’s collective attitude will be more decisive than tactical setups and individual glory as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ancelotti took charge of the Selecao in May, shortly after leaving Real Madrid, and has already guided them to qualification for next year’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Since his appointment, Brazil have recorded two wins, one draw, and one defeat, with their campaign ending on a disappointing note following a 1-0 loss to Bolivia that saw them finish fifth in the CONMEBOL standings.

Ancelotti has experimented with various formations during his opening four matches as he searches for Brazil’s most effective setup. However, the veteran coach insists that team unity and mentality will be key to their success on the biggest stage.

“I think more tactical work is needed to refine game strategy,” Ancelotti said.

“All of this can be very important, but the most important part is not the strategy; it is the attitude of the players on the pitch. For that, it doesn’t take much time to prepare.

“I really liked the team’s defensive play in June and September. The team defended very well – compact, united, committed and intense.

“Where the team needs to improve is with the ball in possession. The team has to show the individual quality it has, and we have a lot of it.

“You can play with four, three or five in attack, but what matters is the quality they show on the pitch. What I really like is the team atmosphere. It’s very positive because of the players’ attitude and professionalism.

“Each of us thinks about the goal, which is very clear: we have to win the World Cup, not be the best players in the world.

“I want players who think they want to be in the World Cup to win, not to be the best.”

At the 2022 World Cup hosted by Qatar, Brazil suffered a quarterfinals exit after losing to Croatia on penalties. The Selecao are now aiming to win a record-extending sixth World Cup in July next year but will have to be at their absolute best to achieve this goal.
