Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi has dismissed speculations linking him with a potential move big European teams such as Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Guehi came close to leaving Crystal Palace for Liverpool on transfer deadline day last month, but the deal collapsed after the Eagles failed to secure a replacement in time.
The 25-year-old defender has since earned widespread praise for his professionalism and composure unlike a host of other players across Europe who soured the existing relationship with their clubs to force a summer move away.
Despite remaining at Selhurst Park, Guehi’s future remains uncertain. His contract expires at the end of the season, leaving him free to negotiate with other clubs from January.
Liverpool are expected to revive their interest in the winter window, particularly following Giovanni Leoni’s serious knee injury that has left Arne Slot’s side short of defensive options.
If no new deal is agreed with Palace by the turn of the year, Guehi could even sign a pre-contract agreement with any club outside England, paving the way for a summer exit.
For now, though, the England international insists he is focused solely on performing for Palace and letting the future take care of itself.
“For me, it doesn’t matter. As long as I’m playing well for Palace, there is an opportunity for me to be here [with England],” Guehi told reporters while on international duty. “Whether it’s sorted or not, it doesn’t matter to me.
“Personally, I don’t know if I can think that far ahead. I like to just take it step by step, and that is just focusing on the games that I have at Palace and any upcoming opportunities I have here.”
