Arsenal’s Mosquera makes bold Yamal comparison for Max Dowman

Arsenal defender Cristhian Mosquera has likened the playing style of teammate Max Dowman to Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal.

Dowman made his English Premier League debut for Arsenal in August, coming on as a second half substitute and winning a penalty kick in the 5-0 thrashing of newly-promoted Leeds United.

At 15 years and 235 days, he became Arsenal’s second-youngest player in EPL history, behind Ethan Nwaneri who made his debut at 15 years and 181 days.

The teenager has been impressive in his time with the first team, including putting up a couple of dazzling displays during the club’s preseason tour.

Speaking in a recent interview, Mosquera, who joined Arsenal in the summer from Valencia, acknowledged Dowman’s potential, citing similarities to Spain’s Lamine Yamal.

“I don’t mean to compare, but his style and way of playing is like Lamine Yamal. His movements are Lamine-esque,” Mosquera said.

“I didn’t have him on my radar and when I got to Singapore, he was already training and playing. When they told me he was 15, I couldn’t believe it. “

Dowman however, has a long way to go to reach Lamine Yamal’s level. The Barcelona youngster has played at a top level since announcing himself to the world as a then 15-year-old in 2023.

Yamal inspired the Catalan giants to a domestic treble last season, contributing 18 goals and 25 assists as they also reached the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.

He finished second in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings, a remarkable achievement for his age, but claimed a second successive Kopa trophy, becoming the first player to achieve the feat.

“He really is an incredible player, and I think he’s going to be world-class”, Mosquera added.

Arsenal are back in action after the international break with a clash against London rivals Fulham on Saturday, as they look to consolidate their spot at the top of the standings.
