Wolves confident of turning Premier League season around despite horror start

Despite a nightmare start to the Premier League season, Hugo Bueno remains confident that Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to turning things around.

The Spanish defender believes the team’s performances have shown promise, even if the results have not reflected their efforts with Wolves coming agonizingly close to victory in their last two league outings, only to be denied by late goals.

Just before the international break, Marshall Munetsi’s stunning volley looked set to secure all three points against Brighton and Hove Albion until Jan Paul van Hecke struck late to snatch a draw.

A week earlier, Santiago Bueno had given Wolves the lead against Tottenham Hotspur but Joao Palhinha’s stoppage-time equaliser left them frustrated once again.

Yet, rather than dwell on the negatives, Bueno has urged his teammates to stay united and keep pushing, confident that hard work and persistence will soon see Wolves rewarded with that elusive first win of the campaign.

“We know it’s going to come and as soon the first one comes, hopefully there’s many more,” the Spaniard said.

“Of course, we’re disappointed because we know the team we have, the quality, and the late goals are so annoying. It’s the reality, so we have to get it sorted, get better and go into the next one to win it.

“Hopefully we can sort the little details, they’re not big mistakes. We are on the right path, I say it again, and hopefully the next one we’ll get the win.

“We’re getting there, and the team is getting better, from the back to the front.

“We just have to get to winning ways, that’s main thing – three points, three points, three points. We’re putting the work in, so we need to get the little things sorted out.”

Wolves travel to the Stadium of Light this weekend where they will lock horns with a Sunderland side looking to bounce back from their defeat to Manchester United prior to the international break.
