Emi Buendia scored a sublime second half strike as Aston Villa completed a stunning comeback win over Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Both sides had recorded 2-1 successes in their last league match before the international break, but the away side held the upper hand having won the last two encounters featuring both teams.
The home side got off to the perfect start, scoring the opener inside the first five minutes through midfielder Rodrigo Bentacur, who got on the end of a header from Joao Palhinha.
Summer arrival Mohammed Kudus scored another goal just two minutes later, although the strike was ruled out for offside.
Aston Villa grew into the game and got a deserved equalizer through Morgan Rogers. The England international breezed past Xavi Simons and fired an unstoppable strike into the net from 20 yards to level matters.
At 23 years and 85 days, he became the youngest player to reach 25 goal involvement for Villa in the English Premier League since Christian Benteke in August 2013 (22 years and 257 days).
Second half substitute Emi Buendia then completed the comeback, cutting inside from a Lucas Digne pass and firing an unstoppable shot past Vicario in Spurs goal.
It was the Argentine’s third goal in his last four appearances for the visitors, as many as he managed in his previous 44.
The game ended 2-1 as the visitors continued their revival after a slow start to the season and moved up to 10th on the standings with 12 points.
It also marked a fifth successive win in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side, while Thomas Frank’s Tottenham slumped to their second league defeat of the season.
Tottenham return to action on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League against Monaco, while Aston Villa face Go Ahead Eagles in the Europa League on Thursday.
