Pep Guardiola demands more from Man City players despite win over Everton

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has demanded his players to improve their display despite their 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday.

The Cityzens continued their improved form with another dominant performance in the win as they moved up to second on the standings, ahead of other round of fixtures in the gameweek.

They however had to rely on the brilliance of star striker Erling Haaland, who came up clutch once more with two goals.

Speaking after the victory, Guardiola acknowledged the importance of the Norwegian and urged other players to step up their performance.

“Definitely. Erling could have scored four or five in the end. Our key man, what can I say? At the same time we can’t rely on him”, Guardiola said.

“We want to do good things, not just Erling. The wingers, the attacking midfielders and the other players have to make a step up.

The chances that we create are so clear and they have to score goals. Savinho had two, Jeremy had two, Tijjani had two. They have to score at that level”, he added.

The home side had the better chances to take the lead in the first half, but were denied by wasteful finishing and Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal.

However, as he has done all season, Haaland rose highest to nod a cross from Nico O’Reilly to give his side the deserved lead after the break.

He soon added a second minutes later, finishing a pass from Savinho although Pickford will believe he should have done better.

Haaland had further chances to add to his tally, but was unable to convert as the game ended 2-0 in favor of Manchester City.

“In general, it was a good game, especially in the second half and this weekend we will sleep in the Champions League positions. That’s good.”

Man City turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, where they travel to Spain to face Villareal.
