Vincent Kompany signs contract extension at Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have confirmed that manager Vincent Kompany has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until the end of June 2029.

The extension comes as a reward for the Belgian’s immediate impact in Bavaria, with the 39-year-old transforming Bayern into a dominant, confident side since his arrival last year.

Kompany guided Bayern to the Bundesliga title in his debut campaign, re-establishing the club’s domestic authority after a turbulent spell. He also delivered the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup following a convincing win over Stuttgart at the start of the current campaign.

Since that Super Cup win, the Bundesliga champions have put together an extraordinary run, winning 11 consecutive competitive games and equalling a Bundesliga record previously held by Borussia Dortmund in the 2015/2016 season.

Speaking to the club’s official website after putting pen to paper, Kompany expressed gratitude for the faith shown in him: “I’m grateful, honoured and would like to thank FC Bayern for the trust and the working environment they’ve given me from day one.

“It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer and that I know the club well. It’s been a great experience so far. We’ve started on a wonderful journey. Let’s keep working hard and celebrate much more success.”

That “journey” has begun in remarkable fashion this season as Bayern currently sit top of the Bundesliga table and the Champions League league phase.

Kompany’s Bayern look set to maintain their grip of dominance on the Bundesliga but the Belgian manager will know that his team still have a point to prove in the Champions League.
