Injured Real Madrid defender teases return ahead of El Clasico

Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen has hinted he could be back in action in time for this coming weekend’s El Clasico against arch rivals Barcelona.

Huijsen is currently ruled out of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Juventus, the club where he began his professional career.

However, his recovery appears to be progressing well, with optimism growing around his chances of being ready for the visit of Barcelona on Sunday, October 26.

When approached by El Chiringuito while signing autographs outside Valdebebas this week, Huijsen kept his cards close to his chest, playfully suggesting he already knows whether he’ll make the squad but prefers to keep it as a surprise.

“I think I know if I’ll make it to the Clasico, but we’ll leave that as a surprise,” he insisted.

The Spaniard has become a vital player for Real Madrid since arriving from Bournemouth ahead of the summer Club World Cup, featuring heavily whenever fit.

His consistent performances have made him a mainstay in Xabi Alonso’s defensive setup and his potential availability will certainly provide a massive boost for Los Blancos ahead of Sunday’s match.

Real Madrid are somewhat in a defensive crisis ahead of El Clasico, with experienced defenders Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba both sidelined.

Rudiger has been out since September with a long-term injury, while Alaba suffered a fresh setback after featuring in the 1–0 win over Getafe.

With Huijsen sitting out Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Juventus, Eder Militao is expected to partner Raul Asencio in defense.

The situation leaves Los Blancos short of options, forcing Alonso to consider reshuffling his squad selection so French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni can be available as emergency cover.
