Hugo Ekitike has relished an emotional and unforgettable night after he scored his first UEFA Champions League goal in Liverpool’s dominant 5–1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
The French forward, who joined Liverpool in the summer after spending a season and a half with Frankfurt, marked his return to Germany in style. Facing his former teammates at Deutsche Bank Park, Ekitike showed composure and class as he netted the equalizer to spark a comeback that saw the Reds take full control of the match.
“It was a great feeling,” Ekitike said after the final whistle. “Obviously it was something special for me to come back, I would say at home. I know everybody here. It was a special game for me. Obviously to win was also important. And to score my first goal also in the Champions League. I’m really happy.”
Ekitike’s respect for his former club was clear as he reflected on his time in Frankfurt.
“I have so much respect for them, they made me the player I am right now. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t come to Frankfurt. I just came to be respectful. I’m grateful for what they gave to me. I will keep what I learned there, and the values they gave me, with me all the time in the future.”
The goal in Germany was Ekitike’s sixth for Liverpool since his arrival in July, proving how quickly he has adapted under Arne Slot’s management. His confidence and chemistry with teammates have made him one of Liverpool’s most exciting new signings this season.
“I think it’s because obviously I feel good. I have very good teammates, good staff, I love my life here. I just hope I’m going to keep going because it’s [about] consistency in football. I feel really good, they help me a lot. I’m calm and I’m just doing my thing,” the forward replied when asked why he has settled in so smoothly.
With his first UCL goal now behind him and his form on the rise, the France international continues to show why the Reds’ fans have every reason to believe he’s a star in the making. His return to Frankfurt wasn’t just a reunion, it was the perfect stage for a defining moment in his young career.
