Chiesa wins Liverpool’s Player of the Month for September

Federico Chiesa has been named Liverpool’s Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month for September, claiming the award for the first time in his Reds career.

The Italian forward topped a supporter poll on Liverpoolfc.com, earning 34 per cent of the votes. Alisson Becker and Ryan Gravenberch both finished second with 18 per cent each.

“Of course, I’m glad I won this prize. Thank you to the fans for the support and for voting for me,” Chiesa said after collecting the trophy at the AXA Training Centre.

“I would rather not get it in the future and win more games. But thank you again. The support always has been amazing. I try to give my best on the pitch for the fans and for Liverpool. I love to see that the fans actually appreciate what I’m doing.”

Chiesa made three appearances in September, registering three goal involvements. He started in the Carabao Cup third-round win over Southampton at Anfield, providing assists for Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike and earning Carlsberg Player of the Match honours.

He then came off the bench a few days later to score in the Premier League away game against Crystal Palace.

“I was happy after the Southampton game because we won, but then at Crystal Palace we couldn’t win and we couldn’t even draw. I wasn’t happy at the end of the game because my goal didn’t count [for anything]. We hope to turn things around in the future.”

He added: “Whatever the minutes are that I’m playing, I try to give my best, I try to help the team, stay positive and try to make an impact. That’s what I’m here for. I hope I keep on pushing and keep on giving something back to the fans.”

The forward’s recognition highlights his growing influence at Anfield and his commitment to making an impact whenever he steps onto the pitch.
