Ruben Amorim defends Man United’s style after Arne Slot’s dig

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has brushed off comments made by Liverpool boss Arne Slot following their Premier League clash last weekend.

The Red Devils recorded a shock 2-1 result over the Premier League champions at Anfield, with the Reds’ manager criticizing their style of play.

While speaking at his prematch conference ahead of his side’s clash against Brentford this weekend, Slot was critical of Man United’s low-block and long balls, admitting it was difficult to defend against such style.

“The main difference between this season and last season is the playing styles we face.

I’ve looked when we had a few days off at how many long balls we already had to defend – 178 in seven games and then United came and we had to defend 59 long balls”, Slot said.

In response, Amorim dismissed the Liverpool manager’s remarks, emphasizing focus on his side’s crucial clash against Brighton and Hove Albion.

“Liverpool is in the past, I don’t want to comment. That is not important”, Amorim remarked.

“Important is what Fabian [Hürzeler] said to try to understand what is going to happen [against Brighton].

“I understand everything. I am really pleased that the team can play different games.

“It was an important win, but I was the first one to say that we need to play better with the ball. So, I don’t care what Slot is saying, what people are saying about our team”, he added.

Manchester United look to make it three consecutive wins for the first time under the Portuguese when they host Brighton at the Old Trafford on Saturday.

However, they have only defeated the Seagulls once in their last five meetings, making Saturday’s clash a very tough one.

“I can evaluate my team and I am really clear that we should play better with the ball. We are going to try to do that in this game”, Amorim said.
