Allegri urges consistency from AC Milan ahead of Atalanta clash

AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri has urged his players to show greater consistency as they prepare for a crucial Serie A showdown against Atalanta, the league’s only unbeaten side so far this season.

Both teams head into the encounter looking to bounce back from disappointing draws in their previous league outings. Milan were pegged back in a 2-2 stalemate against newly promoted Pisa, while Atalanta were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Cremonese, their fourth consecutive share of the spoils.

The Rossoneri will be eager to return to winning ways when they make the trip to the New Balance Stadium in Bergamo, but they face a daunting challenge against a resilient Atalanta side unbeaten in all ten of their league games this campaign.

Speaking ahead of the match, Allegri acknowledged Atalanta’s qualities and admitted his side must improve on recent performances if they are to get anything from their trip to Bergamo on Tuesday.

“We knew that the schedule until the next break would be filled with difficult and complex matches, but they all are,” he told reporters at his pre-match press conference. “We made life difficult for ourselves against Pisa, and we could’ve done better.

“Atalanta have some great physical and technical qualities, it’s always difficult playing in Bergamo. It’s a direct clash because we will be up against a team who are fighting for spot in the top four.

“The league is wide open at the moment, we will see who will have the strength to maintain consistency. We will need to be technically brilliant tomorrow to maintain consistency.”

A win for Allegri’s AC Milan will keep them within touching distance of reigning champions Napoli at the summit of Serie A.
