Legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon believes former manager of Italy’s senior national team Luciano Spalletti is the ideal candidate to replace recently sacked Igor Tudor as Juventus head coach.
Tudor took charge of Juventus on an interim basis towards the back end of last season and helped the Old Lady steady her wobbly ship. However, an eight game winless run forced those in charge of the Turin based club into a tough decision on Monday.
Following Tudor’s departure, Spalletti, who guided Napoli to that historic Scudetto win back in 2023, has emerged as the leading candidate to take the reins at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
And Buffon, who spent the majority of his illustrious career manning the sticks for Juventus believes the 66-year-old Italian tactician is exactly who the Bianconeri need at the moment.
“For me, Luciano is the right profile for any big club that wants to remain ambitious. You won’t lose many with Luciano,” Buffon said at the closing ceremony of the Corriere dello Sport centenary event, via Football Italia.
“It would be a great professional choice. He’s a football man, he’s a great person and a great coach.
“Spalletti is the best around in terms of experience, charisma and authority. He’s the right person for ambitious clubs who want to remain ambitious. It’s a shame seeing him not in the dugout.”
Juventus play their next match in Serie A on Wednesday with Udinese providing the challenge. Whether the Old Lady will announce Tudor’s successor before that game remains uncertain.
