Barcelona’s Pedri suffers fresh injury blow after El Clasico loss

Barcelona have been dealt another major setback as midfielder Pedri faces time out with a hamstring injury, further worsening the club’s growing injury list after their 2–1 defeat to Real Madrid in El Clasico.

The 22-year-old featured almost the entire match before being sent off in stoppage time. Following the clash, medical tests confirmed a “tear in the distal biceps femoris muscle of his left thigh,” according to a club statement released on Wednesday.

While Barcelona did not reveal a specific recovery timeline, reports from The Athletic suggest Pedri will be sidelined until after the November international break. This means the midfielder could be out for around four weeks.

The timing couldn’t be worse for the Catalan giants. Pedri has been a mainstay under Hansi Flick, playing in 72 of 73 matches since the German manager took charge. This season alone, he has started all 13 games, clocking an impressive 1,117 minutes across all competitions.

Pedri’s injury adds to Barcelona’s already troubling fitness situation, with Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Joan Garcia, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Andreas Christensen all sidelined. Almost half of Flick’s preferred starting lineup is currently unavailable.

With Hansi Flick’s men trailing the Los Blancos by five points in the La Liga standings, Flick’s men will have to regroup quickly. The Blaugrana must find a way to keep their title hopes alive without Pedri orchestrating play from midfield.

For now, Barcelona fans can only hope their injury nightmare eases soon before it derails their campaign completely.
