Pep Guardiola was full of praise after Manchester City sealed a 3–1 victory over Swansea to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. The big highlight was Omar Marmoush getting back on the scoresheet for the first time this season.
The Egyptian forward powered home City’s opener, easing some pressure off Erling Haaland and showing he can step up when called upon. Guardiola welcomed the goal with genuine delight.
“I’m happy for Omar because strikers need goals and for his confidence it will be important, but he’s been injured a long time and of course can play in the position from Erling,” Pep said.
City continue to rely heavily on Haaland, but Marmoush’s return offers the boss another weapon in attack. Guardiola stressed how vital that is.
“Erling is important, but of course we know we need them both and having [Omar] back is so nice.”
He also highlighted the creativity behind the goals. With Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki and Nico Gonzalez all delivering quality service, City look dangerous from every angle.
“We have incredible deliveries with Phil and especially with Rayan Cherki and Nico Gonzalez who is day by day getting better.”
The gaffer appreciated the entire squad effort, including impact players off the bench like John Stones and Josko Gvardiol.
Meanwhile, Swansea pushed hard and stayed competitive until stoppage time. Pep didn’t overlook their performance.
“They started really well… they deserved a goal. They played impressively, I would say. But after 20/25 minutes we take the game.”
The Cityzens controlled the second half, dominated territory, and limited transitions. The victory sends a strong message as they continue their cup run.
“I’m really pleased for the game because I know how difficult it is away, and we are in the quarter-finals.”
Momentum is building, and with Marmoush firing again, City look even more dangerous moving forward.
