Liverpool manager Arne Slot is unfazed by the club’s poor run and is confident their form will improve in the coming matches.
The Reds have suffered defeats in six of their last seven matches in all competitions, including in four consecutive matches in the English Premier League.
They also suffered elimination from the Carabao Cup fourth round in midweek to Crystal Palace, their third defeat to the Eagles already this season.
Despite spending a record sum in the summer, with high-profile signings like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, the team has failed to impress and are already seven points behind league leaders Arsenal after only nine league games.
“The thing that gives me the most confidence is the quality in the players and the chances these players are creating. This will result in the players scoring more goals than we have up until now”, Slot said in his weekend prematch conference.
“If you don’t win the beginning, people say: ‘oh maybe they don’t have the same team as last season’ and then they start winning and everything is positive again. Where with us, it’s exactly the opposite. “
Arne Slot’s side face Aston Villa on Saturday night, hoping to end their recent slump with a victory.
They have won both of their past two home matches against Villa and are unbeaten in the last four games between both sides in the league.
“We have to address other things. But if I talk about that and speak about them, people tell me I’m using excuses. So maybe it’s best that I just say that”, Slot added.
“There are other positives to go int this week – quality of the players first and foremost and the amount of chances we created from open play is enough to compete for the positions we want to compete for.”
