Xabi Alonso keen to move on from Vinicius Junior’s El Clasico outburst

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has downplayed the ongoing drama surrounding Vinicius Junior’s angry reaction during last weekend’s El Clasico, insisting he is eager to move forward from the incident.

The controversy erupted after Alonso substituted Vinicius during Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona, a decision that sparked an emotional response from the Brazilian, who appeared visibly frustrated as he left the pitch.

His reaction fueled widespread speculation of tension between the player and manager, with some reports even suggesting Vinicius was considering his future at the club. Although the winger has since issued a public apology for his behaviour, his statement notably omitted any mention of Alonso, intensifying rumours of a rift within the dressing room.

When asked at Friday’s press conference whether Vinicius had apologized to him privately, Alonso said: “We had a meeting with everyone on Wednesday and Vinicius was impeccable. He spoke honestly and was very good. For me, it’s settled.

“It was a very valuable, very positive statement. He showed his honesty; he spoke from the heart. The most important thing is what he said, and I was very satisfied. The matter was closed on Wednesday.”

Reports had indicated that Vinicius might face disciplinary measures ranging from a fine to a temporary exclusion from the squad, but Alonso swiftly dismissed those claims, confirming that no sanctions would be imposed on the winger.

“No, no punishment,” he stressed.

“I think I’ve already given enough explanations. I respect that your focus is there. It was settled on Wednesday. We’ve had a very good week. What worries me is Valencia. I understand you, but understand me too.”
