Luciano Spalletti eyeing Scudetto push after Juventus appointment

Recently appointed Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has set his sights on competing for the Scudetto despite his new side’s slow start to the ongoing Serie A campaign.

Spalletti takes the reins at Juventus following the sacking of Igor Tudor earlier in the week. A poor run of results already sees the Old Lady trailing current Serie A leaders, Napoli, by six points.

Despite this, Spalletti, who famously led Napoli to a first Scudetto triumph in 33 years, did not shy away from declaring his desire to challenge for the Serie A title with Juventus.

“I hope we can get back and be involved in the race for the Scudetto,” the former Italy boss said at his first press conference as manager of the Bianconeri.

“That is what we were discussing with the players yesterday. We must aim for the top, and in this case, the top is the title race.

“Nine games have been played, still 29 to go. That’s a lot of games. I’ve seen everything in my over 30-year career. I don’t see why I should settle for less. I have absolute respect for the quality of these players.”

Spalletti will be eager to kick-off his reign at the Allianz Stadium with a victory when Juventus make the trip down to Cremona where newly promoted Cremonese will be laying in wait.

He’ll also be looking to get Juventus going in the UEFA Champions League where the Old Lady are yet to record a win, having posted two draws and a defeat from their first three outings in the league phase.
