Iraola impressed with Bournemouth’s display despite defeat to Man City

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola was impressed with his team’s performance despite falling to a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Cherries suffered their first league defeat since the opening day 4-2 defeat against defending champions Liverpool on Sunday evening and only their second league loss of the season after just 10 matches.

Erling Haaland (2) and Nico O’Reily got on the scoresheet as the Cityzens claimed maximum points while Bournemouth dropped to fourth on the standings.

Speaking after the match, Iraola was disappointed with the result but was pleased with his players’ display.

“It was not a bad performance by us. We are starting quite well in games. Even when they scored the first goal we were controlling a lot. You have to accept the way we play there are risks.

“It is a season where we have the challenge of a lot of new players but we also have advantage where we have players who have been here for three pre-seasons, we have played just 10 games and we still need a lot of points”, the Cherries manager said.

“We have to continue to do the same things, we have another big challenge because we play Aston Villa away next. We have to try and correct the things that didn’t work well today. I am happy where we are.”

Bournemouth gave a good account of themselves throughout the entire 90 minutes and scored their only goal of the game through Tyler Adams.

Norwegian forward Erling Haaland continued his brilliant start to the season with a brace on the day, debuting a new robotic celebratory after his first.

Iraola recognized the impact of the Man City forward, who moved up to 98 goals since his arrival in the English Premier League.

“It’s very difficult [to play against him]. He’s amazing. When you press higher and concede the press at the back, he is super fast”, he continued.
