Isak returns to training as Liverpool gear up for Man City showdown

Liverpool have received a major boost ahead of their Premier League trip to Manchester City, with Alexander Isak set to return to training today after three weeks on the sidelines.

The Swedish forward has missed the Reds’ last four matches following an injury sustained during the away clash at Eintracht Frankfurt.

During his pre-match press conference on Friday, head coach Arne Slot confirmed that Isak will rejoin team training but urged patience regarding his match readiness.

“He will train for the first time today with the team again, after being three weeks out,” Slot said. “I know that I said three weeks ago that his pre-season has ended so now it’s time for us to see where he is.

“But I have to come back to those words, because if you are three weeks only with the rehab, that doesn’t bring you back to the levels he was three weeks ago.”

He added: “Although, our rehab team is doing an incredible job. But you cannot compare rehab with games of football or training sessions with the team.

“As much as we try to replicate it, that’s simply not possible. So, again I have to say, give him some time.”

Slot also shared positive news on the injury front, revealing that Alisson Becker is expected to return immediately after the upcoming international break.

“Alisson for sure and I expect Jeremie back after the international break as well because we play from November until March! But I don’t expect Jeremie to be fully fit for Forest, but with Alisson we expect this,” Slot concluded.

With Manchester City up next, Liverpool fans will be eager to see if Isak makes the matchday squad. The Dutch gaffer, however, remains cautious and determined to manage the striker’s return carefully to ensure lasting fitness for the demanding months ahead.
