AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri expressed deep frustration after watching his side slip to a disappointing 2-2 draw with Parma in Saturday’s Serie A clash.
Allegri’s men let a two-goal lead slip as Parma battled back to earn a dramatic draw. Alexis Saelemaekers opened the scoring with a low drive inside 12 minutes and later won the penalty that Rafael Leao converted to double Milan’s advantage.
Despite dominating much of the first half, the Rossoneri were pegged back when Adrian Bernabe curled home a superb strike before the break.
Parma carried their momentum into the second half, and captain Enrico Delprato completed the comeback just after the hour mark, with a close-range header from Sascha Britschgi’s cross.
Speaking after the game, Allegri couldn’t hide his disappointment at the Rossoneri’s failure to manage the game better and protect their lead.
“We threw away two points. I don’t know how it might’ve ended if we had gone into the break at 2-0, but we should’ve done better,” the Italian told Sky Sport Italia.
“Even apart from the goal, we came out for the second half so clumsy, we allowed two or three big chances before the equaliser from throw-ins and corners, we were basically half-asleep.
“Once we started playing again, there were three scoring opportunities that we didn’t take. It’s a psychological thing; the game seemed to be on the right track, but the fear set in when they scored.
“Parma made the most of that mental advantage and regained confidence, so we should’ve kept playing our game at that moment. Instead, we were losing all the battles inside the penalty area.
“We were a bit dumb today, as we dropped some precious points and the fact remains we left six points behind against Cremonese, Pisa and Parma this season.”
The result means AC Milan have now dropped six points from winning positions this season, after also giving up leads against Cremonese and Pisa earlier in the season. They also missed the chance to overtake Napoli at the summit of Serie A.
