Roy Keane rules Liverpool out of Premier League title race

Former Manchester United star Roy Keane says he is not convinced Liverpool can retain their title this season after suffering another league defeat on Sunday.

The defending champions lost 3-0 to Manchester City at the Etihad last Sunday, marking their fifth defeat in six league games as they fell eight points behind early leaders Arsenal.

The Reds have also lost four consecutive away matches for the first time in 13 years, while new signings have struggled to adapt to the demands of the league.

Speaking after their embarrassing defeat on Sunday, Roy Keane who works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes Liverpool are already out of the title race despite only few games into the season.

“At this moment in time you can’t be considering Liverpool for the Premier League title; that’s five losses now.

I think it is crisis time for Liverpool, to lose seven in 10 with five league losses this season, it has to be a crisis for a team like Liverpool”, Keane said.

“Defensively they are all over the place. The full-backs are a huge problem, the centre-half [Ibrahima Konate] looks a nervous wreck.

“You watch players dangling their legs, it’s not what champions do. Put your body on the line.”

Erling Haaland missed a penalty in the early exchanges, but atoned for his miss with the opener in the 29th minute, asserting City’s dominance in the game.

Virgil Van Dijk had a goal ruled out for offside afterwards, with Andy Robertson deemed to be obstructing Man City’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Nico Gonzalez added a second for the home side in first half stoppage time as his shot from outside the area took a huge deflection and flew into the bottom corner.

Jeremy Doku, who enjoyed an outstanding performance, added a superb third in the second half to seal the comprehensive win for the hosts.

“If you are not at it as a team and are a little bit off get the basics right, stopping crosses and being difficult to play against”, the former Man United captain added.

“From Liverpool’s point of view, how badly to they want it?”

Manchester City face Newcastle United after the November international break, while Liverpool play host to Nottingham Forest on the same day.
