Jenna Clark says Liverpool FC Women can take plenty of positives from their battling 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion, even if it ended in heartbreak.
The Reds were just moments away from sealing their first Barclays Women’s Super League victory of the season. Beata Olsson’s first-half strike had given Gareth Taylor’s side a deserved lead, and they looked set to grab all three points.
But football had other plans. In stoppage time, the Seagulls struck late to snatch a draw and leave Liverpool frustrated once again.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, centre-back Clark shared her thoughts on the team’s spirited display.
“I think we probably just showed more spells of what we’ve already been doing, just throughout the game for a bit longer,” Clark said.
“I think we kept possession well, we created good chances, we got forward, we defended well. But it’s just frustrating to lose a goal right at the end there.
“Sometimes football is just cruel. I felt like all the girls left their all on the pitch. We couldn’t really ask for more on the day.”
Despite the late sting, the 24-year-old believes there’s momentum to build on. The Reds looked sharper in possession, more cohesive in attack, and resilient at the back which are signs that a first win is only a matter of time.
Liverpool will aim to turn that fighting spirit into victory when they return to league action next weekend.
