England boss Thomas Tuchel has shared some insights into his plans for the Three Lions’ 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, insisting that he will prioritize the balance of the team over the involvement of big name players.
The Three Lions have incredible depth in almost every area of the pitch and Tuchel is expecting to be faced with a major selection when the time comes for him to pick his squad for next summer’s Mundial.
However, the German seems to have no qualms with making the tough choices after recently declaring that Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden, who are three of England’s biggest players cannot fit into his system together.
“At the moment, if we keep the structure, they cannot play,” said Tuchel.
“They can, but not in the structure, not for the balance that we developed. Not for the structure that also comes with wingers who are like specialists in their positions.”
One of the areas where England boast an incredible amount of talent is in that number 10 role with the likes of Bellingham, Foden, Morgan Gibbs-White, Morgan Rodgers, Eberechi Eze and Cole Palmer all capable of taking up that role.
“At the moment, we play with a number six, a number eight, a number 10 and a number nine.
“There is a lot of congruence, especially in the number 10 position, if you think about Phil can play there, you think about Jude, you think about Morgan Rogers, who played fantastic for us in this position.
“You have Cole Palmer, you have Morgan Gibbs-White, so there are a lot of players and there is the chance that we will not take everyone. Not because we don’t like them, not because they don’t individually deserve it, but we will always do what’s best for the team.”
