Spain national team head coach Luis de la Fuente has praised his side after they etched their name into the history books by setting a new national record for the longest unbeaten streak in competitive matches.
La Roja’s commanding 4–0 victory over Georgia pushed their run to 30 competitive games without defeat, surpassing the previous landmark of 29 set during Vicente del Bosque’s golden era between 2010 and 2013.
Since their last competitive loss, a 2–0 setback against Scotland in March 2023, De la Fuente’s European champions have put together an extraordinary sequence of 25 wins and five draws. Their only blemish in that period came in a friendly defeat to Colombia in March 2024.
For De la Fuente, the magnitude of the team’s consistency and resilience is undeniable, and he was quick to applaud the group for maintaining such high standards on the international stage.
“I feel admiration and pride in leading an exceptional generation of footballers,” De la Fuente said after the record-breaking win.
“Surpassing a record set by an unforgettable group of players is a remarkable achievement.

“Georgia have good players, but they faced an ambitious Spanish team that wanted to play well and win. It is not a reflection on Georgia’s quality, but a testament to Spain’s performance.”
Spain are all but guaranteed a place at the 2026 World Cup, with only a highly improbable seven-goal defeat to Turkey in Seville capable of knocking them off the top of Group E. However, De la Fuente insists the mission is far from complete.
“This team has many virtues, including respect. Until we mathematically secure qualification, we will continue working in the same way. I am happy with the players’ efforts, but there is still one more step to go.”
