Moroccan stars Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak emerged as the 2025 CAF Awards’ top winners, securing the Men’s and Women’s titles respectively.
Hakimi, 27, finished second to Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman in the 2024 award, but beat Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen to claim a first win.
The PSG right-back became the first Moroccan to win the award since Mustapha Hadji in 1998, following a remarkable year for club and country.
The 27-year-old was instrumental in Les Parisiens historic treble win which also included a first-ever UEFA Champions League title with a 5-0 win over Inter Milan in May.
Elsewhere, Ghizlane Chebbak claimed the CAF Women’s Player of the year award, beating teammate Sanaa Mssoudy and Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade to the prestigious award.
The Atlas Lioness captain became the first woman from her country to win the award, capping off a remarkable year which also saw her inclusion in the FIFA FOFPRO World XI.
Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie continued her dominance by winning a third consecutive Women’s goalkeeper of the year award, while Yassine Bounou won the male category.
Nigeria was named the Women’s team of the year following success at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in the summer, while Morocco U20 team claimed the award in the men’s category after their triumph at the FIFA U20 World Cup.
