Flick promises new-look Barcelona after big defeat to Chelsea in UCL

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has promised to make changes to the team in the coming weeks following their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

The Spanish champions suffered a disappointing defeat in their fifth game of this season’s UCL league phase, which has now reduced their chances of finishing in the automatic spots for the knockout rounds.

The defeat also marked a second in five European games for the Catalan giants, who also dropped points in a 3-3 draw against Club Brugge on match-day four.

“We will see a different Barcelona in the next games, this is what I can promise. This is also what I said before the game. I see how we train, the quality, the intensity. It’s totally different than maybe six weeks ago”, Hansi Flick said after the game.

“Players are coming back, increasing the quality in the training. I have good feeling about that and am looking positive.

“You can see I am happy that Raphinha is back again in the second half today, Marcus [Rashford] is on his level after flu, Pedri will come [back soon]. We have to work hard and look positive”, the German added.

Chelsea produced one of their best performances this season to defeat Barcelona 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were denied an early goal after a handball in the buildup, while the Spanish side also wasted a golden chance through Ferran Torres.

However, the home side took the lead in the 27th minute after a cross from Pedro Neto was unfortunately put into his own net by Jules Kounde.

Ronald Araujo was then sent off before halftime for a second bookable offense, giving the visitors a much-harder task.

Estevao Willian and substitute Liam Delap scored in the second half to complete a 3-0 win for Chelsea, who also had two more goals disallowed in the second half.

Chelsea now head into the weekend’s clash against Arsenal in full confidence, while Barcelona must regroup ahead of their clash against Alaves on Saturday.
