Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed full confidence in his side’s squad depth and their ability to adapt as the Premier League leaders prepare to face Brentford on Wednesday.
Arteta reflected on a demanding run of fixtures that saw the Gunners take on Tottenham, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich in quick succession.
Arsenal impressed with dominant wins over Spurs (4-1) and Bayern (3-1) at the Emirates, though they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against a stubborn Chelsea side on Sunday.
Their strong form has come despite a growing list of injuries. Key defenders William Saliba and Gabriel remain unavailable, while Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard are sidelined further up the pitch.
Even so, Arsenal have maintained their momentum, with Arteta highlighting the team’s versatility and defensive organisation as major factors.
The depth of the squad has been crucial, as players like Piero Hincapie, Christian Mosquera, and Myles Lewis-Skelly have stepped in capably to keep the Gunners’ title charge on track.
“It’s been a headache, because we’ve had to have a lot of options and changes over the last few months for different reasons,” Arteta said after the draw with Chelsea.
“[Losing Saliba] is very unexpected, and it happened yesterday, but the beauty of it is that you have players so willing to play, so willing to connect with each other, and it makes their relationship even better.
“So, it was great for all of us, and it gives you the reassurance that whoever is there is going to perform.”
Speaking further about the past week and the big games his team had to navigate, Arteta continued;
It’s been a big week, starting with the [North London] derby, with how emotional and the intention we had to win it, then to play Bayern Munich three days later.
“We lost players in those games, and against Chelsea, we had to play a partnership we hadn’t played before in a really difficult match.
“But the team had to react to that, and overall it’s been a really positive week, because the difficulty has been immense.”
