Wubben-Moy backs Arsenal’s collective leadership ahead of Twente’s Champions League clash

Lotte Wubben-Moy continues to set the standard at Arsenal, with or without the armband.

The England defender has crossed the 100-appearance mark across two spells, and her voice carries real weight in the dressing room.

She believes leadership runs deep in the squad.

“I don’t think you need an armband, I don’t think you need a label in order to be able to lead,” she said.

“I think there are multiple players that aren’t in the leadership group that also show traits of really strong leadership and contribution to the environment.”

Wubben-Moy remains driven by connection and purpose every day.

“Coming back to me, I think what I give and what I hope to portray on a daily basis is leading by example, the professionalism that I show, but likewise also having the connection with the club that allows me to give an extra percentage every day, not only on the training pitch but also during games.”

Arsenal now prepare for FC Twente in the new Champions League league phase.

The 18-team format demands consistency, sharp focus and a high competitive edge as teams battle for 12 knockout spots.

The Gunners sit 10th, and the margins are tight. Wubben-Moy welcomes the challenge.

“I think it definitely provides a lot more jeopardy in terms of a psychological edge. You take each game as it comes, and you want to show yourself in that 90 minutes as a team, and whether it’s Benfica away or Real Madrid at home, I think there’s always going to be surprises, and that is European football.”

She believes the new structure will sharpen the squad.

“What now is then accentuated is the fact that there are more teams that we’re playing, so a greater array of styles, which I think ultimately will put us in even better stead when it gets to the knockout stages.

“So I think that is something that I think will play into our hands, and as the competition progresses, I hope that it will help us.”The defender knows every match carries weight.

“Every game is an important one. I think when you put the badge on Arsenal Football Club, there comes a responsibility, there comes a precedent that has been set by players before us.”

For her, the privilege of wearing the shirt fuels standards.

“But I think for us, stepping out onto the pitch, playing for this club is a great privilege and one that we should do justice with the performances that we set out.”

As Arsenal aim to climb the table and punch their ticket to the knockouts, their shared leadership may be the key weapon driving their European fight.
