Arsenal’s Kelly lands SPOTY 2025 nomination after extraordinary year of glory

Arsenal forward Chloe Kelly has been shortlisted for the BBC’s 2025 Sports Personality of the Year award.

Her nomination celebrates a year packed with decisive moments and historic wins.

Kelly shone brightly on the biggest stages.

She lifted the UEFA Women’s Champions League before stepping up again for England.

Her calm, match-winning penalty against Spain delivered another European crown for the Lionesses.

She kept England charging forward all tournament.

Kelly scored in the shootout against Sweden in the quarter-final.

She then struck a dramatic semi-final winner against Italy.

It capped a remarkable year for the forward, who arrived Arsenal on loan from Manchester City in January and later finished fifth in the Women’s Ballon d’Or rankings.

She joins a strong SPOTY nomination list.

Hannah Hampton, Ellie Kildunne, Michelle Agyemang, Luke Littler, Rory McIlroy and Lando Norris also made the final cut.

A panel of experts will select the young winner.

The show will also reveal the World Sport Star award, with Mariona Caldentey among the contenders.

Kelly and Agyemang now head into the ceremony as two of England’s brightest stars after a year full of clutch moments and championship energy.
