Arsenal and Crystal Palace have successfully reshuffled their December fixtures to clear space for their Carabao Cup quarter-final showdown.
The London rivals will now meet in the cup at 8pm on Tuesday, December 23, after both clubs agreed to move their Premier League games originally set for Sunday, December 21.
Arsenal’s clash with Everton will now take place at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday, December 20 at 8pm, while Leeds United will host Crystal Palace at the same time.
The Carabao Cup quarter-final was initially planned for December 16, but that would have left Palace facing four matches in just eight days across three different competitions.
To ease the congestion, the tie was moved to December 23, allowing the Eagles extra recovery time before their Conference League fixture on Thursday, December 18.
“The welfare of our players, supporters, and staff is our priority, and we fully understand this change of date may result in challenges for supporters travelling to Liverpool for the game,” the Gunners said in an official statement.
“Therefore, we are organising additional supporters’ coaches for this match. All coach travel will be subsidised for supporters, priced at £10 for the return journey to Everton.”
The reschedule means both North London giants and current FA Cup champions can go into their Carabao Cup quarter-final fresher, with the Gunners also showing class by ensuring their travelling fans aren’t left stranded during a busy festive period.
