Pep Guardiola reveals key condition for Man City’s title push

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says his side can challenge for all available trophies this season if the players can remain fit.

The Cityzens endured a dismal 2024-25 campaign, ending the season without a major piece of silverware in a season blighted by injuries to several key players.

There was significant reinforcements in January and also in the summer to address the growing demands of the league, with the team still in the hunt for four major titles this season.

Guardiola’s side visit Tyneside on Saturday evening to play Newcastle United and the Spaniard believes his side remain a threat if they avoid injuries.

“If we continue with the squad fit, we will compete in every single game and every single competition”, the City boss admitted.

“I don’t have any doubts about that. Last season we were not able to compete in even one competition.

“Of course, during the process there are injuries. We know that. But we feel we can compete in every competition, be solid, or try. At least try, that’s for sure.”

The former Premier League champions still have some injury concerns in the squad, with midfielders Rodri and Mateo Kovacic unavailable with different problems.

Rodri has struggled for fitness since returning from an anterior cruciate ligament tear that prematurely ended his 2024-25 campaign and remains out of action.

“He made an incredible effort and he played with pain before the surgery but he could not continue,” Guardiola continued.

“Always you have niggles and have pain, that’s normal. But not the limitations before he had the surgery and hopefully he can recover well.”

Manchester City sit four points behind leaders Arsenal, and victory would cut the deficit at least temporarily, before the Gunners face Spurs in Sunday’s North London derby.
