Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has revealed that striker Dusan Vlahovic is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with the Serbian forward expected to miss “two to three months” after sustaining an adductor injury.
Vlahovic picked up the problem during Juve’s 2–1 win over Cagliari on Saturday, forcing the medical team to run further tests to determine the full extent of the damage.
The setback comes at a difficult moment for the Bianconeri, who are preparing to kick off their Coppa Italia campaign.
He has now been ruled out of Tuesday’s round-of-16 clash with Udinese, and Spalletti admits the club is bracing for a significant period without their leading striker.
“As far as precise timings are concerned, you have to talk to the doctors. They’re the ones who know these things,” he said.
“As far as I’m concerned, he will be out of action for two to three months.
“We have to expect a few changes because we’ve struggled physically and mentally over the last few days. The whole group is working as best as possible and everyone deserves a spot.
“Chances come and go. Now, it’s a matter of grasping them and showing how to use them. Everything is possible, but I would have preferred to have [Vlahovic] available because he’s a big part of this team.”
Juventus, the most successful team in Coppa Italia history are on the hunt for a 16th triumph. Spalletti is eager to see his team put up really impressive performances as they work their way towards the final.
“Obviously, we have to win important games, but you have to be successful and play well, maybe even beautifully,” he added.
“Supporters have a fine palate here. Winning is not enough, you also have to play well. We will try to do both, but in the meantime, we’re starting to win games.
“For us, at the moment, they’re all big tests. We want to give the supporters a better spectacle and bring good results.”
