Liverpool Women suffer blow as Grace Fisk ruled out ahead of Arsenal clash

Liverpool FC Women have been dealt a tough setback as captain Grace Fisk has been ruled out with a calf injury.

She pulled out of the England squad on Monday, and Gareth Taylor has now confirmed she will miss roughly 10 days of action.

Taylor shared his frustration with the timing of the setback.

“It looks like we will be missing Fisky for the next 10 days, which has come at a really bad time for us,” he said.

The Reds are already stretched at the back with Risa Shimizu still unavailable. That makes Fisk’s absence even harder to absorb.

The head coach admitted the squad is running low on defensive options as they move into an important stretch.

“It’s a frustrating one and we are quite limited in terms of options with Risa Shimizu still missing,” he added.

“Lucy Parry will come into contention but she’s on limited minutes in terms of playing 90 minutes, so we’ll have to wait and see what we do at right-back.”

Liverpool now shift their focus back to the Barclays Women’s Super League after the international break. Their next challenge is a tough trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal on Saturday.

The timing of Fisk’s injury gives the Reds another hurdle to clear as they prepare for one of the toughest fixtures on the calendar.
