West Ham part ways with Rehanne Skinner after slow WSL start

West Ham Women have confirmed the departure of head coach Rehanne Skinner with immediate effect following a difficult opening to the new Women’s Super League season.

The Hammers sit 11th in the WSL table with five points. They have managed just one league win so far.

Their latest outing ended in a 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool, the only side currently below them.

Skinner arrived in east London in the summer of 2023.

She made history as the club’s first female head coach of the women’s team in the WSL era.

Her early task was survival and she delivered, keeping West Ham in the top flight in her first campaign.

Progress followed in her second season. The Hammers finished ninth with 23 points.

Several performance metrics improved and optimism grew around the squad.

However, momentum stalled this term. Results failed to reflect expectations and pressure mounted.

The club has now decided to make a change in a bid to steady the campaign.

“Recent results have not matched expectations and the board of directors believe that a change is necessary to help improve the team’s position in the WSL as soon as possible,” the official statement read.

“The board would like to thank Rehanne for her hard work and commitment during her time with the Hammers and wish her every success for the future.

“The process of recruiting a new women’s team head coach is underway. The club will make no further comment at this time.”

Skinner’s exit brings an end to a two-and-a-half-year spell at the club.

West Ham will now turn focus to finding a successor as they look to climb away from the lower end of the WSL table.
