Liverpool’s Slot draws line as Salah focuses on AFCON

Arne Slot has made his position clear. He will not distract Mohamed Salah with any Liverpool-related talk while the forward is on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Liverpool head coach stressed that the club has already moved on from Salah’s explosive interview. Momentum shifted quickly.

Salah returned to the squad last weekend against Brighton and came off the bench, a decision that underlined calm behind the scenes.

Now, the focus switches to the continental stage. Salah is with Egypt at AFCON and is not expected back at Anfield until January.

With crucial fixtures ahead, Slot wants clarity on all fronts and full concentration from his star forward.

“I said last week that actions speak louder than words and we moved on,” said Slot on Friday. “He was in the squad and he was the first substitution I made.

“Now he’s at AFCON playing big games for himself but also his country. It’s fair to them but also us, because we are going to play some very important games, that all the focus is on him over there and there should not be any distraction from me saying anything about his time here at Liverpool.

“We moved on after the Leeds interview and he played against Brighton.”

For Liverpool, it is now about managing life without Salah in the short term. For Salah, it is about chasing silverware with Egypt.

As the whistle blows on club talk, Slot is letting the football do the talking.
