Maresca backs his philosophy as Chelsea aim to stop Villa’s hot streak

Enzo Maresca has turned to Aston Villa’s season as a lesson in belief. The Chelsea boss pointed to their rocky start. He noted how patience and conviction flipped the script.

Villa opened the campaign with three draws and two defeats. Pressure grew fast. Noise increased. But Unai Emery stayed on track.

Then the momentum shifted. Villa began to sprint. The win over Manchester United made it ten victories in a row in all competitions. Chelsea now stand in their path.

Maresca says the turnaround shows why managers must stay firm. Panic invites trouble. Doubt destroys work.

“This has to be a key thing for any manager because the moment things don’t go the right way and you start to doubt, I think it’s the beginning of the end,” said Maresca.

“I try to believe in what I believe, no matter if things don’t go the right way, because it can be for different reasons.”

The Italian wants Chelsea to reach that level of consistency. Long winning runs. Relentless control. That, he says, is the next step.

Today offers a test. Stamford Bridge is a confident Villa side, a streak on the line.

Maresca also holds deep respect for Emery. Their paths crossed in Spain. The Chelsea manager continues to watch and learn.

“I try to learn and watch as many games as possible. I try to see things. For sure when you see Unai’s teams you can learn many things, and he’s one of the managers where you can learn things.

“I’ve seen him before because I faced Emery when I was a player and he was Almeria manager. It’s many, many years ago now, 20 years ago. So Unai is doing a fantastic job everywhere and he deserves it because his work ethic is very, very big.”

So the stage is set. Chelsea chase rhythm. Villa defend momentum. And Maresca keeps faith in the process — even when the pressure rises.
