Liverpool finish strong as Gravenberch and Wirtz fire Reds past Wolves

Liverpool closed out the year with grit. They beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Anfield. And they did it with poise, pace, and control.

The match started cagey. Both sides probed. Both sides waited for the opening. Then the tempo lifted. And Liverpool took charge.

Early on, Hugo Ekitike almost broke through. He clipped the post after a slick pass from Florian Wirtz. It felt like a warning shot.

Wolves responded. Mateus Mane drove forward twice. Alisson stood firm first, then watched another effort fly just over.

But, on the break, Liverpool struck. Frimpong burst down the right and pulled the ball back perfectly. Ryan Gravenberch arrived like a runner from deep. He finished first time. The crowd roared.

Straight from the restart, Liverpool surged again. The pressure stayed high. Ekitike glided past Andre out wide. He picked out Wirtz inside the box. Calmly, Wirtz poked home his first competitive goal for the club. Anfield erupted.

After halftime, Wolves tried to rally. And they found a lifeline. Santiago Bueno reacted fastest after Alisson parried a header from Tolu Arokodare. The rebound fell kindly. The defender scored. Suddenly, it was game back on.

Arne Slot’s men, though, kept pushing forward. They controlled the midfield. They moved the ball quickly. Wirtz, Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Alexis Mac Allister all went close.

Each chance felt like the clincher. But Wolves stayed in the contest and refused to fold.

Into the closing stages, the visitors chased an equaliser. Arokodare missed with both a header and a volley.

Then Conor Bradley slid across brilliantly to cut out a dangerous cross aimed for Jhon Arias. That was the defensive tackle of the night.

The final whistle blew. Liverpool held firm. They claimed a fourth straight win in all competitions. They finished the year still in the title race. And they marched off the pitch with belief.

This one took composure. It took energy. And it showed a team that knows how to finish strong — right to the final kick of the calendar year.
